Why blog?

In July of 2019, my pregnant wife and I, together with our one year son left China to come back to America. We made China our home for a little more than 3 years and decided to head back to America for a few months to spend time with our loved ones and introduce them to our sons.

Our plan was to return back to our home in China.  That plan did not work out.  During our three year stay in China, we got to explore a part of the world that we knew very little about.  The smell, taste, sounds: it was all different and foreign.  We travelled to many different places.  We trekked on part of the Great Wall.  Toured the Forbidden Kingdom and Temple of Heaven.  Hiked in remote places in the Tibetan autonomous regions that I never knew existed.  Got to experience my mouth numb as I got to encounter the amazing spice of Huajiao in Sichuan.  Enjoyed beautiful friendships with the locals.

Little did we know that when we stepped onto that airplane to head back to America that the world was going to go never be the same again. Yes, COVID-19 happened.

Over a year later, and with normal life once again on the horizon, China has yet to really open up its borders to foreigners.  We have kept in touch with our local friends and continue to speak the language whenever we get the chance.  But in the meantime, we have given up hope of returning to the place that we called home.  A place where our first son was born.  A place where we planted roots with the hope of returning just a few short months later.  A door that is now shut indefinitely.  This blog was started by my wife and me as a love letter tribute to China and the continuation of our ongoing travel journeys, where we learned more about culture and human interactions than we ever could have dreamed of if we decided to stay and live out our lives in the United States.

We hope that our experiences recollected through our adventure stories will remind you of how vast and rich the world we live in is and how the more you travel, the less you know about the world.
